The National Institute of Health reports that 65% of American adults are overweight or obese,
and that the percentages are increasing each year.
At the World Health Organization meeting in Geneva they presented information on the incidence
of cardio vascular disease, diabetes and certain types of cancer—all which can be brought on by
unhealthy diets and inactivity-have soared. In fact overweight/obesity is the second leading cause
of preventable death in the U.S.
Lowering your body mass index (BMI) greatly reduces the risks of heart disease, type 2 diabetes,
high blood pressure, stroke and many other illnesses. The American Academy of Family Physicians
recommends that under the supervision of your doctor some medicines can help lower your BMI, although
eating a healthy diet and increasing physical activity are the way to lose weight and keep it off
